Herseth Sandlin Votes to Extend Bailout Slush Fund
Curd: “I will work to end TARP immediately”
SIOUX FALLS – Blake Curd, Republican candidate for South Dakota’s lone congressional seat laid out a clear policy difference between himself and Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin today stating that he will work to end the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) immediately if elected. Rep. Herseth Sandlin voted on Thursday to extend TARP.
“If elected to Congress, I will work to end TARP immediately. Herseth Sandlin and Democrat majority has turned the program into a bailout slush fund. It seems their plan is to keep the funds on hand for new wasteful government spending – perhaps using it on a so-called second stimulus bill even though the first version has failed to keep South Dakota from losing 10,900 jobs in the last year. My position is clear; we must end TARP immediately and apply any remaining funds for deficit reduction,” said Curd, who is a doctor and a veteran.
“Rep. Herseth Sandlin had the opportunity to end TARP with a key vote last week during the debate on raising the federal debt limit by an additional $1.9 trillion. This is a clear difference between Rep. Herseth Sandlin’s record and the kind of Representative I intend to be. Instead of taking the fiscally responsible position to end TARP, she voted to extend the bailout slush fund,” said Curd.
